Green Cathedral
New Orleans Painting #6April 2011
Acrylic on canvas - 30" x 15"
$1,000 - SOLD
Diary entry: I recently went boating in the Pearl River swamp right outside of New Orleans. Our captain was Dwayne, a friend of my buddy Mike. He grew up in that area and spent his youth boating and fishing in and around the swamps. He has vast knowledge of the seemingly endless winding routes within the swamp and he served as a great guide, pointing out little facts about the plant and animal life.
Once you get deep into the inlets there is an undeniable mystical feeling that should overcome anyone with a pulse. With the boats motor shut, we kept quiet and just basked in the solitude. Under cover of the giant gnarled cypress trees, with the spanish moss hanging all around us, I was overcome with a sense of being in a sacred place - the trees around us creating a makeshift cathedral and the faint bustling of bugs, birds and rippling water creating a beautiful sonic backdrop.
I knew I had to capture this scene in some way in my painting series so this is my offering.
